NTU Module Review: PS8001 Defence Science

The final exam consists of 100 questions (of which many are recycled from previous years papers, so if you somehow have access to previous years papers good for you). I had an exam that ends at 7pm the day before, and I didn’t touch this mod at all until like 8.30pm on 29 Apr. So I only had like 8hrs to study everything. Which actually turn out fine. Just read all the slides, remember a bit here and there (I had some advantage as I know cryptography and those encryption things which was about 1/5 of the paper). I think there are about 10 topics, so about 10 questions from each topic. To pass is 40 marks, and the paper is really not hard at all. Even with my very bad memory and very bad guessing skills, I think I am quite confident of passing.

NTU Module Review: HG8005 Global Language & Local Culture

This course covers the development of languages that are transplanted such as English or Chinese, take root in new societies and are appropriated and adapted to novel uses. As this is a common phenomenon, students will be able to look beyond individual languages and will be able to connect their own, reflected experiences with the demands set by regional and global challenges in multilingual societies. What is especially important is the role of inter-cultural communication and understanding as well as the stylistic range from family talk to formal and public encounters.

NTU Module Review: CM8003 Alchemy to Chemistry

I felt that this was a pretty interesting module. Its really more about the history of chemistry and like how this person discovered this, or where this famous scientist is from etc. There are also chemistry questions like what is the bond between the H and O in water, but those are pretty rare. Its mostly a memorising module, but its quite interesting to be honest. Its not necessary to watch the lectures, but if you are one who remembers better when someone is reading it out, its really interesting to watch the lecturer talk. Quite an animated person and not very boring.

NTU Module Review: BT2403 Service Operation Management

Services represent the fastest growing sector of any developed economy. In the United States, this sector is responsible for nearly 75% of GDP and 80% of employment. Similarly, 75% of GDP and 70% of jobs in Singapore are generated by services. This  trend persists in other industrialized nations. Moreover, these figures under‐represent the actual role and significance of services in the economy because many manufacturing firms are increasingly involved in service‐type jobs such as design, distribution, financial planning, customization, and after‐sales services. That said, it is important for any manager or student of management to understand how services differ from manufacturing operations, and how to efficiently and effectively manage service operations. The goals of the course are i) to provide an understanding and appreciation of the service functions of firms, and ii) to understand the fundamental concepts and techniques necessary to succeed in designing and managing service operations.
